Location: In Studio 4 days a week / 1 day from home
Reports to: Design Director
Employment Type: Full-time
About the Role
At House Nine, we believe great design is felt before it's seen. Reporting to the Directors, our Senior Designer will play a central role in shaping the design direction and delivery of our residential and hospitality projects - bringing creativity, rigour and warmth to everything they touch. This is a role for someone who leads with instinct, takes pride in the details and understands that the best spaces tell a story.
Who You Are
You have a genuine, almost obsessive love of design, art and beauty - it shows in the way you work and the way you think. You're confident in a room full of clients, consultants and contractors, but you lead with warmth rather than ego. You take ownership, you're unafraid of responsibility, and you care deeply about the experience you create for the people who will live in the spaces you design. You're as comfortable steering a concept as you are resolving a technical detail, and you bring out the best in the people around you.
What You'll Do
Creative Direction
- Lead the conceptual and creative stages of projects alongside the Directors, bringing fresh ideas and original thinking to every brief.
- Design and develop considered bespoke furniture, joinery, lighting and upholstery that feel distinctly House Nine.
- Source exceptional FF&E — furniture, antiques, art and specialist finishes that elevate our interiors beyond the expected.
- Present and communicate design narratives to clients with confidence and clarity.
Design & Project Delivery
- Lead multiple projects simultaneously, providing seamless service and exceptional communication from concept through to completion.
- Deliver skilled space planning and technical drawings to design intent package level.
- Develop detailed specifications and coordinate project documentation, keeping revisions and comments consistently up to date.
- Attend and contribute to internal and external design team meetings.
- Work closely with the Directors to build and maintain project timelines, flagging risks early and bringing solutions to the table.
- Manage and review information from consultants, contractors and suppliers.
- Close projects efficiently — resolving snags and wrapping up with the same care taken at the start.
Team & Studio
- Mentor and support Middleweight and Junior Designers, sharing knowledge generously and fostering a culture of craft and curiosity.
- Contribute to setting and maintaining House Nine's internal design standards.
- Help streamline studio processes to improve quality and efficiency.
- Champion team spirit — we are a small, close-knit studio and the culture we build together matters.
What You'll Bring
- A degree or equivalent in Interior Design or Interior Architecture.
- 7+ years post-graduate experience, with a minimum of 4 years in the luxury residential sector.
- Full proficiency in Autocad, Estimac, Sketchup, Adobe Photoshop & Indesign and Microsoft Suite.
- A strong technical foundation in Interior Architecture and a broad, confident knowledge of materiality.
- An exceptional eye, for scale, proportion, colour and detail.
- Deep knowledge of FF&E suppliers, product and specialist finishes and procurement.
- Impeccable communication skills, written and verbal, with fluency in English.
- A proactive nature, great instincts and an openness to feedback and collaboration.
